Tellspinners creates personalized bedtime stories for families. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information.
Who we are
Tellspinners is a service that lets you create personalized, illustrated bedtime stories for your child. You add photos, answer a few questions, and receive a story and cartoon-style illustrations. The service is intended for use by parents and caregivers.
What we collect
We collect and store: (1) Account information — such as your email address when you sign up or sign in (e.g. via Firebase Auth). (2) Story data — the titles, text, and page content of the stories you create, plus the generated illustrations and PDFs we create for you.
We do not store the photos you upload. Your photos are used only to create your story and are then deleted. For more detail, see our For Parents page.
How we use it
We use your information to provide the service (creating and storing your stories and generated art), to manage your account, and to improve the service. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
Service providers
We use trusted third parties to run Tellspinners. They process data only to provide their part of the service:
- Google Firebase — sign-in, account data, story text, and storage of generated images and PDFs.
- OpenAI — during story creation, text and images you submit (including temporary photo processing) are sent to AI models to generate story text, descriptions, illustrations, narration, and safety checks. We do not store your original photos; see For Parents.
- Stripe — payment processing when you upgrade; we do not store full card numbers on our servers.
These providers have their own privacy policies. Data may be processed in the United States or other countries where they operate.
Sharing stories
If you create a share link for a story, anyone with that link can view the story (title, text, and illustrations) without signing in until you revoke the link or delete the story. Only share links with people you trust.
Where it's stored
We use Firebase (Google) for authentication, Firestore for story metadata and content, and Cloud Storage for generated images and PDFs only. Uploaded photos are not stored in any database or storage (see For Parents).
Data retention
Your stories and generated content remain stored until you delete them or until you close your account. You can delete individual stories from the app at any time.
Your rights
You can delete stories from within the app. For account closure or other data deletion requests, please use our Support page and we will respond as soon as we can.
Children
Tellspinners is designed for use by parents and caregivers. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Photos of children are not stored; see our For Parents page for how we handle photos.
Cookies
We use cookies only as needed to run the service (for example, to keep you signed in). We do not use marketing or non-essential cookies. For more detail, see our Cookie Policy.
Terms
Your use of Tellspinners is also governed by our Terms of Service, including how AI-generated content and payments work.
Changes
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will post the current version on this page. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date below.
